January 2014
This year promises to be as busy as ever with engagements in Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Italy, Poland, Switzerland and the USA. There are operas at The Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne and Garsington, as well as abroad, and the boys’ voices will be heard in Disney’s new blockbuster Maleficent.
The choir’s first engagement is very exciting: at the end of January ten young trebles will be combining with the Gabrieli Consort under Paul McCreesh to film a documentary for the BBC about the original performance of Handel’s Messiah at the Foundling Hospital. This will be aired at Easter as a highlight of the BBC’s schedule.
News should follow very shortly about the release of our Munich recording from 2012 when we performed a programme of contemporary British music for choir, organ and percussion. This live recording will first be released in LP vinyl format and later in the year as a CD.
Past and present members of the choir were greatly saddened by the sudden death of vocal coach, Timothy Penrose. Tim had enjoyed a fine career as a singer but had spent the past twenty years teaching singing to Trinity boys. He was an inspirational and hugely popular teacher and he will be sorely missed.
